Trains from Bangalore to Sabarimala

To go to Sabarimala by train, devotees have to get down at any one of the following stations (Ernakulam / Kottayam / Chengannur). Chengannur is very near to Pamapa around 83 Kms. Where as Ernakulam is far among these three stations from Pampa. So, Ayyappa devotees can book the advance reservation ticket to any one of the station, depending upon the berths/seat availability.

Trains from Bangalore to Ernakulam :

Train No.2677 Ernakulam Express runs daily from Bangalore to Ernakulam, departures at 6:15 and arrives at Ernakulam at 16:55.

Train No.6331 TRIVANDRUM EXPRESS runs only on Tuesday. The departure time is 10:30 and arrival schedule at Ernakulam is 23:35.

Train No.2684 Ernakulam Express is a biweekly train, leaves at 17:15 and reaches at 4:20.

Train No.0676 Bangalore Ernakulam Express runs once in a week (Tuesday). The schedule time of departure at Bangalore is 17:15 and the arriving time at Ernakulam is 4:20

Train No.6315 Kochuveli Express is a Tri-week train(Sun, Wed, Fri). The departure time is 17:15 and arriving time at Ernakulam is 4:50

Train No.6321 Trivandrum Express runs only on Thursday, the deparure timeat Bangalore is 18:50 and arrival time at Ernakulam is 6:30

Train No.2257 Kochuveli Garib rath is another tri-weekly train (Sun, Tues, Thurs). This train departs at 21:00 and arrives at 7:50

There is one more daily train from Bangalore and Ernakulam (Train no.6526 Island Express). This departs at 21:40 and arrives at Ernakulam at 10:00.

Hospital Facilities
 
The Health Department of the Government of Kerala runs allopathy, homoeopathy and ayurvedic hospitals at Sannidhanam and Pamba during the pilgrimage season. A cardiology unit functions at the Neelimala ascent the Devaswom Board also runs a cardiology hospital at Pamba near the Pamba Maramath Complex, in cooperation with the Amritha Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi.
 
  • In addition to the above facilities, some organizations from and outside Kerala also conduct free medical camps for pilgrims during the Mandala pooja and Makaravilakku festivals. They are at Sannidhanam and Pamba, and also along the sides of the path leading to the Sannidhanam.Sufficient ambulance services are also available at Pamba.  
  • Banking facilities are also available. Branches of Dhanalakshmi Bank Ltd and State Bank of Travancore function Sabarimala and Pampa during the festival periods.
  • Dolly (Pallakku - carrying one devotee in chair on shoulders) is available for the use of the aged, the unhealthy and disabled pilgrims.
  • Travancore Devaswom Board is operating bus services to Pampa daily from Kottayam and Thiruvananthapuram during the pilgrim season.
  • Sabarimala is a "No Smoking" zone and smoking is strictly prohibited.Using plastic materials, containers, carry bags etc., are totally prohibited.

How to Reach Sabarimala

The Ayyappa temple on Sabarimala lies 184 km away from the international airport in the Kerala's capital city of Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum). Similarly, it is 214 km from Kochi (formerly Cochin) International Airport. The nearest railway stations to Sabarimala are at Kottayam and Chengannur.



During the pilgrimage seasons, devotees proceed to the temple through Chalakayam, or they hit the mountain trails that start from Erumeli and ascend the Karimala hills barefoot. The total distance covered is approximately 50 km.


Three main routes to Sabarimala currently exist and they are,

I) Kottayam to Pampa (via) Erumeli, from Pampa to Sabarimala (by foot) - 136 km Kottayam to Pampa (via) Manimala, from Manimala to Sabarimala by foot - 116 km


II) Erumeli to Sabarimala (via) Kalaketty, Azhutha, Inchippara, Karimala, Pampa - 45 km From Pampa to Sabarimala by foot.


III) Vandiperiyar to Mount Estate by vehicle, from Mount Estate to Sabarimala by foot.


IV) Vandiperiyar to Kozhikkanam, from Kozhikkanam to Sabarimala (descent) - 15 km Kozhikkanam to Uppupura -10 km. Uppupura to Sabarimala - 3.5 km (Vehicles can be utilized for travel till Uppupura).

 
Vehicles cannot proceed further beyond Pampa which is located in the Pampa river valley; the final five kilometers are best covered by trekking, but for the aged and handicapped, porters and chairs are available
